Exxon CEO Says Not In My Neigborhood
|As reported by NPR and the Wall Street Journal, not even the head of Exxon wants oil and gas operations in his neighborhood. Do we want it near our homes and schools?
Joining the list of residents who don’t want oil and gas operations in their backyard is Rex Tillerson, head of ExxonMobil, which is the largest producer of natural gas in the country.
Tillerson’s lawyer tells the Wall Street Journal that he’s concerned about the impact of the tower on his property values. The lawsuit (TillersonLawsuit20140220) says that oil and gas operations would create “a noise nuisance and traffic hazards”. The suit also says that “Each of the homeowners built or purchased their homes in Bartonville to live in an upscale community free of industrial properties, tall buildings, and other structures that might devalue their properties and adversely impact the rural lifestyle they sought to enjoy.” This can also be said of the majority of Rochester Hills homeowners.
Mr. Tillerson told the council. “I cannot stay in a place,” he said, “where I do not know who to count on and who not to count on.”
