April 23, 2015
Rochester Hills, MI
Don’t Drill the Hills, Inc (DDHI) is honored to be the recipient of the 2015 Green Hall of Fame Award in the Community category as selected by the MI Green Team, managers of the MI Earth Day Fest.
Chris Morris, a member of DDHI, said: “We are very proud to be recognized for our advocacy and awareness building of issues specific to drilling in high density residential areas, but especially proud to have done so by drawing on a broad constituency demonstrating that ‘Green’ efforts are not politically Right or Left.”
Green Hall of Fame awards recognize the dedication and achievement of some of Michigan’s most significant green leaders among the following categories: business, professional, student, community group and media. The Green Hall of Fame awards ceremony is the highlight of MI Earth Day Fest, now in its sixth year, which is one of the country’s largest green events with attendance of up to 70,000.
This win comes to DDHI on the heels of celebrating their first year of accomplishments in helping to shape the local and State conversation on issues specific to oil and gas exploration in high density residential areas, including: facilitating initiation of well site and pipeline draft ordinances in City of Rochester Hills, facilitating numerous community education and awareness building events, introduction of two State bills supporting consumer and property rights of residents in mineral leasing, and coalition building with likeminded groups throughout the State.
Gail Hammill, another DDH member adds: “This award is very meaningful to our group. It’s reflective of our commitment to the community and our willingness to work collaboratively with everyone to ensure that the high quality of life enjoyed by citizens locally and across the State continues into the future.”
