Shelby Township Residents Protest Oil Well In Residential Neighborhood

WXYZ Channel 7 reported on the protest which brought out about 100 people from Shelby Township, Rochester, And Rochester Hills.  The residents are angry about an oil and gas drilling operation that was placed as close as 450 feet from their homes.  They chanted “No Residential Drilling” and “Go away West Bay”.  The president of the Shelby Twp group, Citizens Against Residential Drilling, said “The DEQ, we feel, is nothing but a lap dog and not a watch dog.  They don’t look out for us. They allow oil wells to be within 450 feet of the corner of your house.”

Many of the residents promised continued protests until the drilling operation, conducted by West Bay Exploration, leaves town.
